Highlights of @gomezforma victory speech #masen #mapoli

“Gracias a todos por estar aqui conmigo esta noche.

—-

First, let me take you back in time for a moment….

The year was 1976. 37 years ago. Gerald Ford was President. The internet did not yet exist.

8 track players were big. Boston’s first album had just come out. The first Rocky movie debuted in theaters.

The median price of new homes was 44 thousand dollars. Our national debt, which today is over 16 Trillion, was not even 1 Trillion. Al Gore had not yet invented the internet.

It was a lifetime ago… I was playing little league baseball. …it was when Ed Markey first got elected to Congress.

—-

Let me close with this.

My parents emigrated from Colombia, the year before I was born. They came in hot pursuit of freedom and the American Dream, and they caught it.

I was raised in a typical middle class family in a small town. My folks told me that in America, you can do what you put your mind to.

I have been tremendously blessed. From a kid who didn’t know English until he went to school, I’ve earned everything in my life: From earning my Navy Pilot Wings, to earning my Navy SEAL trident, to earning my way to Harvard Business School and earning a successful career in the private sector.

—-

I will approach this job with a military man’s discipline, a father’s sensitivity and a businessman’s experience.

I look forward to meeting you on the trail, I will earn each vote and I will always fight for you.

Thank you and may God Bless you all.

Muchas Gracias a todos y que dios vaya contigo.”

@edmarkey comes out swinging against @gomezforma #masen #mapoli

Less than a hour after news outlets had declared Markey and Gomez  the winners of tonight’s primary, the Markey campaign issued a blistering statement outlining their attack against the GOP nominee.

“Gabriel Gomez is a pro-life Republican who was the spokesman for a Super PAC that attacked President Obama over the killing of Osama bin Laden,” said Markey campaign spokesman Andrew Zucker. “He opposes an assault weapons ban, supports devastating cuts to Social Security, and while he’s running as a ‘businessman,’ he refuses to discuss the 16 years he spent in private equity. A vote for Gabriel Gomez is one more Republican vote against sensible gun laws, Social Security and a woman’s right to choose.

Jihad

Yesterday Winslow took a shot a VP Joe Biden for calling the Marathon bombers “knock-off Jihadists” and he wants the Anti-Sedition Laws used against Jihad in the U.S.

“These weren’t knock-off Jihadist, these were real: this is the face of Jihad in the United States and this is a continuing threat.”

“Jihad is sedition and from now on we ought to treat with the same seriousness that we would treat a threat to the President,” said Winslow. “Even a threat to the President made in jest, will immediately result in a law enforcement response, and we need to treat threats made against the people with the same seriousness of purpose as threats made to the President.”

“Jihad is the language of hate and violence. It is a cancer that has radicalized these bombers and others and must be eradicated. We should treat Jihadist statements as acts of sedition and investigate and prosecute such conduct to protect Americans from further attack.”

GomezRomney4

In the biggest development of the day, the Massachusetts Democratic Party attacked Gomez for the first time painting him as a Romney-like figure and taunting former top Romney aide and Gomez supporter Eric Fehrnstrom with a reference to Fehrnstrom’s infamous Etch A Sketch comment.

The attack confirms a Gomez camp assertion that the Cohasset businessman is becoming a significant contender for the GOP nomination and gave a glimpse to how the Democrats might craft a Romney-Gomez campaign against the newcomer. The Democrats made no mention of Winslow in their statement today.

The Democratic Party has been crossing party lines attacking the presumed front runner Mike Sullivan for months now and established a website and a twitter handle linking Sullivan to the Tea Party.

@gomezforma blasts Obamacare exception for Congress, @mikesullivanma “welcomes” Gomez opposition to Obama #masen #mapoli

Gabriel Gomez laid himself so wide open to attack from the right on the issue of his support for Obama in 2008 that even the surprisingly sluggish Sullivan camp took advantage of the Gomez gaffe.

It all started this morning when Gomez picked up on a politico story that Congress might be close to a deal excepting themselves and staff from the most costly provisions of Obamacare.

“It seems when Washington politicians finally got around to reading the fine print in Obamacare they didn’t like the costs that it put on themselves and their staff. Now these congressional hypocrites are scheming of ways to exempt themselves from paying for Obamacare – and having taxpayers foot the bill.

In response Sullivan “welcomed Obama supporter Gabriel Gomez” in rejecting the Congressional Obamacare exception.

Sullivan, “My opponent, Gabriel Gomez, who supported President Obama in 2008, has now announced his opposition to this hypocritical exemption for our nation’s leaders. I welcome him, although I would have welcomed him in opposing Barack Obama back in 2008 so that we wouldn’t be facing imposition of Obamacare on anyone today, Gomez said.”

“If our elected officials want to exempt themselves from Obamacare, I have an idea: why don’t they exempt every American from Obamacare while they’re at it,” said Sullivan.

Elections are fun in NYC.

GOTV Machine. Markey is putting together a series of GOTV events on a scale never seen before in Massachusetts politics.

Markey GOTV rallies

Most people loathe door to door or hours of mindless phone calls. The Markey people embrace the work and the social media aspect pulls volunteers into a connected statewide team.

Can’t make a GOTV rally? Markey has over 30 GOTV volunteer opportunities (and that is just for Thursday) to canvas or make phone calls.

Markey GOTV events

This is how you win a special election.

Will they sell t-shirts? The Sullivan camp announced the Tested and Trusted Tour starting Thursday in Lowell and Beverly. Friday, Sullivan hits the South Shore and Cape, Saturday Worcester and Metro West.

Michael Graham offered to buy me dinner if more than 150K vote in the GOP primary next Tuesday. Listen to my appearance on his show yesterday starting at the 45 minute mark. 164K voted in the 2009 GOP Special election primary. Get out to vote you Republicans, I’m hungry!!!!!

Recent videos.

The Lynch camp wants you to know they are not making those pesky robo calls. Who wants to email the audio of the call?

The no surprise endorsement watch.

Boston City Councilor Bill Linehan and State Representative Russell Holmes endorsed Lynch.

Pack the Hall? If you bring a friend to the Gomez End of Primary “time” tonight at the Seaport Hotel, you can get in for the “reduced rate” of $50.
